How did we get here?

Austin

Much of life involves us to make decisions based upon some events that may have passed or off of something that we see that either happens to us or happens to someone else that we may know, care about, or just happen to observe.

So I’m not the most outspoken person; I believe there are times things should be said and times where we should sit back and watch this play out. I believe in the seasons as said in the book of Ecclesiastes in the bible; a time to kill, a time to heal and a time for many other things.

But I’m sitting back at 11:42 pm, pondering while trying to be comfortable on this couch, “How did we arrive at this point? We as people arrive at this point of life with the many things it is bringing?”

For instance, I’m reading an article about someone that I know that was racially attacked at a Concert a week ago. Some say she was belligerent and that she was asked to leave. Some say that she was preyed or attacked upon by one of the members of a fraternity. I went through and read most of the post that were spoken on this open form on the Daily Texan website and was amused by what I saw. Some may ask, why was I amused? Instead of, can you believe what (fill I the blank) wrote? No, I was amused because it shows how we have let our minds be shaped by our own experiences and understandings. It shows how one persons actions can choose to be portrayed to inflict many different things on another, hate, racism, meanness, rudeness, discrimination, hurt, or maybe nothing at all. What makes this country so great is that we are suppose to openly respect everyone’s own individual thoughts and opinions so that everyone’s voice is made but at some point we actually just expect people to have the same value and see things in the same light as us. So with this justification, one side says “how can you not see the racism?”, the other says “your always trying to pull the race card and are invalid this person didn’t commit a crime!”. To every story there is two sides but sometimes the other side doest make it out, and I’m a actually interested in hearing the other sides story only to see what validity they have to the claims that have happened before.

Anodyne with this it makes me wonder how we value ourselves and others and what we are truly learning from this event?

See hundreds of years ago they weren’t worried about Homosexual marriages. This came up over the last few decades as a controversial topic because we had a different collective value system. Back in the 90s hip hop took on a different meaning; they didn’t produce tracks without meaning, without the voice of an oppressed race of people who were down trotted because life was “pooping on them”. Now hip hop can mean anything from a track that instructs you on making o the craziest dance move combo that DDR nor anyone else has seen to the degenerating sexually explicit and instructional music that degrades others or more specially women. We believed in a home that involved two parents and that men upheld responsibilities not fled from them.

But I can’t be concise in the club, so I just make the most of the moment. I enjoy the Tom foolery to a certain point where I know what’s not in my best interest, I laugh and crack jokes, and listen to the crazy music That has no real literal meaning only to eventually be raged enough to return to my true music home with soul tied lyrics and hide messages. But in downtime as I process all the events in the day, and all the decisions that I made, I look back and critique myself to see if I’m leading the future or just being another mindless droid, allowing racism, capital gains, and mental oppression to win once again.

I speak put on it now only to see if you can really backtrack to how we landed on today from a values, mental, spiritual stand point, and with the direction of God, have suggestions on how we can improve as a people so that we can ensure that our children experience a better tomorrow.

It all lies in our perception; to me Austin is a beautiful city with a huge market for untapped potential but for other it doesn’t have enough going on so they must leave to find what’s in their comfort.

This video is where I see the beauty of Austin, what do you see?
